OK, so round 2 a pretty quick post/update... Both Mumak are finally done. It was slower going than I would have liked, but that is always typical for me and my life.
Up first are some pictures of the flea market Mumak (as I fondly have come to call him). I managed, in the end, to fix what was broken and model up what I needed to make this beast look right. I had to change the coloring, fill holes & sculpt, re-glue an ear and basically give it a lot of love.... I think it finished very well and I am very happy it did as the original owner put a lot of work into the customization (all of the armor is hand cut plasti-card)... so I can easily see why it was put into the flea market after it was dropped and broken up..... I would have been heartbroken too if I dropped it after all of that hard work..... one mas sorrow often brings another joy though.... it was a great project for someone who wanted to tackle it!
I had to use a bit of sculpy to craft wood beams for the support of the lowest howdah section as one was missing and since the lower howdah sides were missing altogether, I had to fill in the holes and use sculpy to craft the ropes you can see in the lower pictures and make it look like it was supposed to look that way! I am happy the way it all came out... it is one terrifying creature now! The loss of the lower howdah sides doesn't bother me as much as the regular compliment of figures can still fit on board and with the armor customization.... it is more of a fighting beast and not necessarily an archery platform... I still might go back and add tusk weapons as that would really make it stand out on the table top! I do have the special edition driver to go with it... well, it use dot be "special" until they mass produced it and started selling it....
As usual, I used a combination of paints ranging from P3, GW, Battlefront and IWM.... The grass and tufts are all army painter. As a quick aside.... Army Painter has changed up their packaging.... now, when you buy grass clumps, they are little round clumps.... easy to work with, but perfectly symmetrical... I honestly liked their earlier packaging better.... clumps you could tear apart and they were very asymmetrical. Those made for more realistic modeling. While on the subject of paints... wow, painting ivory to look natural is very hard. I started from scratch on the flea market Mumak and had to do a repaint on the one from Donnie as the tusks were just too white.... I don't think you can see too well in these pics, but there are 3 shades of white and 2 tan to make them look as natural as I could.
Below are the images of the redone regular Mumak.... The one I got from Donnie. I basically gave it a partial repaint and a lot of touch-up work. I used a bit less grass on it, but again... I am very happy with the finished product... a beautiful archery platform for my Haradrim forces! I need to get a full on picture of the Haradrim army now....
In the end... they both match.... look like they came from the same army and will look beautiful on the table top.... a nice crowning achievement to the army! Heck, aside from missing the unit of horsemen & command... my Haradrim army is the most complete force I have! It isn't really large by any stretch of the imagination, but it isn't all that small either!
As promised, next up... some Milites Christi for my Crusader SAGA war band! I already cheated and started on them.... I finished gluing them up some months back.... Some short time after HMGS Cold Wars 2018... This weekend was kind of miserable out, but with the humidity low enough, between rain, I primered them.... it did not go as well as I would have liked... I didn't lose any detail, but I am not 100% happy with them... it didn't go on as smoothly as I would have liked.
As for painting.... I plan to match the knights pretty much to how they are painted on the box... with some very minor changes. I don't know enough about the rules to say much, but I took the 4 dismounted knights w/spears as a starting point. I know the shields are done with decals and that is fine as I won't be able to match the crosses without a LOT of work....
I opted to use a light tan for the initial flesh base as these are white folks who have been out in the sun baking.... I'll highlight with a lighter flesh, but not my usual un-tanned color scheme. They will have clothes in the same colors as the box paint jobs.. I know... really original huh? The only deviations I'll make will be in minor items, like pouches, belts, etc.... I want to find colors that "pop" the details on the models so that they don't appear all white and black for the knights.
I'll post more in the first Milites Christi topic when I get more work done.... (I actually got more done, but didn't want to take the limelight away form the Mumakil!!!!
